The WSG Board of Directors would like to remind residents about the policy concerning what trash will be picked up by the disposal company. Several weeks ago a tenant left a pile of trash including a huge mattress box, paint, a fan, and other articles that First Choice did not remove. We had to hire someone to haul this material to the landfill.
That prompted a call from Berkeley Property Management to the Chatham County Waste Management director. What we learned is that although all trash except liquids can be disposed of in the landfill, the trucks that are used to haul weekly trash are not large enough to handle certain items. All items left for the crew at First Choice must fit into garbage cans. If the item is bigger than that, the resident can either take the item to the landfill (all residents can obtain a sticker for their cars) or can call First Choice to arrange for a pick-up for a fee. In the future the Association will not pay a third party to have bulky items taken to the landfill.
Another recommendation that the director made is to use garbage cans, not just bags. The disposal companies are not required to take the time to pick up trash that has been scattered by animals that tear open the bags.
